'Il Silencio' (The Silence) played by 13 year old Melissa Venema'Il Silenzio' is an Italian instrumental piece (based on Last Post)
written in 1965 by trumpet player Nini Rosso.

The conductor of the orchestra is Andre Rieu, a famous Dutch violinist, conductor and composer. The young lady, her trumpet and rendition of TAPS will make you realize that all of the men and women who have laid down their lives for us to have the freedom we enjoy in America are deserving of this full version. The Original version of Taps was called "Last Post", and was written by Daniel Butterfield in 1801. It was rather lengthy and formal, as you will hear in this clip, so in 1862 it was shortened to 24 notes and re-named "Taps". Melissa Venema is playing it on a trumpet whereas the original was played on a bugle. (130319 - GBM) |
